Downtown - Northeast

I’ve broken the downtown area into two separate areas – Downtown Southwest and Downtown Northeast.

Downtown North East includes the newer neighborhood around the Tinseltown mall, also known as the International Village.

This area has really changed a lot in the last few years.  It is located close to Gastown, and the problematic “Downtown Eastside.”  The area has a history of having a lot of vagrants and homeless people loitering and causing general nuisance to the folks who live here.  Today, although the area is still a far cry from neighborhoods like Yaletown or

Coal Harbor, it has vastly improved.  The International Village has a younger and more diverse make up, as prices are a little lower than in the above-mentioned areas.

The Stadium Station is located here – making quick transportation to the downtown core, including the Pacific Center Mall, the Sea-bus to the North Shore, and soon to the Airport via the RAV line easy and efficient.

Also included in Downtown North East are the buildings along Quebec Street, built in the late 90’s and some more recent additions to the strip.  These towers offer nice views of False Creek, and are central in that they also have their own sky-train station at Main and Terminal.  This area is definitely on the border between the nicer areas of downtown, and the so called marginal areas made up of a large number of homeless, with all of the inherent problems that are associated with that issue in Vancouver.

Prices are lower here, and you can get great units with good square footage.

The downtown area is generally a little less expensive than areas such as Coal Harbor and Yaletown, with the exception of a few towers.  It is centrally located, and offers easy access to all of the great features of the neighborhoods surrounding it.

Downtown - Southwest

Downtown Southwest is an incredibly central and convenient place to live.  Here you are located right in between the West End and Yaletown… with really easy access to the Westside via two bridges.  The neighborhood has its own set of restaurants, bars and shops.  This area makes walking to every other neighborhood quick and easy, and is adjacent to the seawall on the south side, and Robson on the north side.

This area has a wide range of buildings, from heritage older brick buildings on Robson, to gleaming towers like the Wall Center.  This area is close to the business district – and is all around an incredibly convenient place to live.

It is a little louder than the areas along the perimeter of the downtown peninsula; this is where you’ll find many of the city’s night-clubs and bars (in the Granville Entertainment District).  Having said that, if you are a block or two away from this particular area, you won’t find much in the way of noise disturbance from the weekend party crowd.
